Lord, If You Wish

Lord, If You Wish

Friends, do you catch yourself becoming numb or indifferent about God? Catching ourselves means the Holy Spirit is working in us to get our attention, to remind us of all that God has done and continues to do for us.

I am guessing that most know that Jesus instructed His disciples that whatever we ask for in His name He will do or grant (Jn 14:13). A leper approached Jesus for healing in today's Gospel and his first words were; "Lord, if you wish."

What an incredible plea this is from someone who suffered greatly. There was no demand from the leper, no words of frustration, no anger regarding his condition. He approached in faith the One Who he knows can heal him provided, provided this is what Jesus also wants for reasons we may not understand.

The leper's first word was an acknowledgment of Who Jesus was to Him; Lord. That says it all. I don't think more words were needed between the leper and His Savior, His Lord, for his faith, exhibited by this single word was clear. What a gift it must have been for the leper merely to approach Jesus let alone pray openly to Him. This is another example for us, that we are gifted with access to God just as the leper. If our only prayer is "Lord" that can suffice for this expresses our faith. From there we let go and let God. We hang on (to Him) for dear life, or, we let go (of our sins) for dear life.
