Waiting For a Bus, a Train, or God

Waiting For a Bus, a Train, or God
Friends, no one is really good at waiting, are they? I am not by any means.
I was on a flight last week into Atlanta where they had several inches of snow. A rarity for certain. I had a connecting flight out of Atlanta and I thought that flight would be cancelled but I actually left on time, or, I should say, we pushed back from the gate on time. That's where the waiting began.
We boarded the flight at 5:15 p.m. and then went out onto the tarmac until we took off at 9:30 p.m. This took over four hours. During the four-plus hours on the plane waiting to take off, I was uncharacteristically patient due in large measure to have two books with me.
In a recent conversation with my wife and son, we discussed hearing God's voice and giving Him the time to speak. During that chat, it occurred to me that we should wait on God as we wait for a plane, a bus, an Uber, or a train. However, there is one important distinction between waiting on these modes of transportation and waiting on God. You see, we're not entirely certain the bus, train, or Uber will show up. God, on the other hand, shows up every time but it is up to us to wait for Him.

Isaiah 40:31: "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint"
Psalm 27:14: "Wait, I say, on the LORD"
This abandoned train station might be a good reminder for you that God will come here, too. It may look abandoned but He will be there if that is where we are. If we truly want to hear the voice of God, we must wait.
Peace to you,
John
